Very few companies still make what they sell. Tidmarsh have designed, manufactured and installed bespoke blinds and curtains since 1828, which is nearly 200 years of doing the same thing and getting steadily better at it. We are family owned, with our workshop in Essex and our work spread across London, the South of England and, on occasion, considerably further afield. Every blind and curtain we supply is made to measure for one specific window, by our own team, in our own workshop.
Our history runs alongside the buildings most of us think of as classically English. Tidmarsh & Sons were dressing windows through the Georgian, Regency, Victorian and Edwardian periods, so when we work on a period property today, we are often working on the kind of window we helped to dress the first time round. That matters in practice as much as in principle. Knowing how a sash window behaves, how a bay should be treated, and where a blind can and cannot be fixed in a listed building is the sort of knowledge that takes generations to accumulate and cannot be bought in.
The Experts
Blind making has changed a great deal in two centuries, and we have changed with it. Alongside our handmade curtains and Roman blinds, we specialise in motorised and electric blinds, battery-operated blinds, remote control blinds and electric curtain tracks. As a Lutron Platinum Dealer, we design, supply, install and program complete lighting and shading systems, integrating them with heating, audio-visual equipment and voice control. The craftsmanship in fabric and timber is still there. It now sits alongside precision engineering, electronics and software, and we take both halves equally seriously.
We handle the whole job, which is unusual and makes a real difference to the result. Our team visits your home or project, advises on fabrics, styles and control options in the rooms themselves, and measures every window properly. Your blinds and curtains are then made to those measurements in our Dunmow workshop and installed by the people who understand them. Because nothing is subcontracted, there is no gap between what was specified, what was made and what was fitted, and one point of contact throughout.

We work directly with homeowners, and alongside architects, interior designers, developers and electrical contractors on projects of every size, from a single bay window to complete new builds and full renovations. Our work is mainly across London, Essex and the South of England, though projects have taken us as far as Greece and Italy.
